Dark ink upper arm tattoo, kitchen mug
Upper arm · Black and grey · Photo
The photo is cropped from the chin to the thighs and shows a woman in a black crop top and grey sweatpants holding a blue mug in a kitchen. A large dark tattoo of leaves or foliage with shaded areas covers the upper arm, and a small fine tattoo sits on the inner forearm near the wrist. The image is mostly black and grey ink with cool blue tones from the tiled kitchen background.

Dear Ruth,

The ivy has got into the signal box again. I cut it back on Sunday with the shears from the lamp room, and by Tuesday it had found the gap under the window frame and was feeling its way along the sill as if it had been sent for. Mr Pargeter says leave it, it keeps the damp out, and he is right in the way that men on the Hastings line are right about most things, which is to say slowly and only after I have already been proved correct.
The train you took on Thursday came in four minutes late, which Mr Pargeter blamed on the cows at Aldworth. I watched it pull out from the box. You had your palm flat against the glass of the carriage window, the way you used to press your hand to the kitchen window to see if it was raining. I thought you were waving at me. Perhaps you were only checking the weather.
I have kept the blue enamel mug you left on the ledge. It is chipped at the rim, and there is a brown ring inside where you never let me scrub. Every morning I fill it from the kettle, stand where the first light comes through the leaves, and drink it while the up train goes through without stopping.
Come back when the leaves turn. The station will still be here, and so will the ivy. I have stopped cutting it.
Yours, Walter
