Eiffel Tower on a forearm
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A small, solid black tattoo of the Eiffel Tower sits on the forearm, shown from its spire to its base arches. The tower is drawn with fine black linework and light hatched shading that suggests the lattice structure. The plain pale background and centred placement keep the focus on the design.

His grandmother used to say that on the far side of the sea, in a city of bread and bells, the people had built a tower of iron so tall it poked a hole in the clouds. She said it was black as a crow's wing and made of a thousand little bars, each crossed over another, so the wind could walk straight through it. Nobody on the ship believed her. Ansel had believed her, mostly, on the nights when the rain came sideways.
On the seventy-third morning the fog lifted off the water like a sheet pulled from a bed, and there it stood, a spike of black lace on the horizon with a small platform stacked halfway up its height. Ansel did not shout. He only pointed, and the captain looked through the glass for a long time before he said that a thing you could see through was the only thing a tired man could ever see at all.
They steered for it all afternoon. When the land came up green and grey, the iron was still there, thinner than a mast and taller than any mast had a right to be. That night Ansel took his grandmother's brass compass from the bottom of his chest and set it on the rail to dry in the last of the sun, its needle trembling and then settling, pointing the same way as the tower.
