Expecto patronum script on upper arm
Fine line · Upper arm · Black and grey · Photo
A dark ink script tattoo reads expecto patronum in a flowing, joined handwriting style, running diagonally across the arm. The linework is thin and even, in a single dark tone with no shading, and the lettering is clearly legible against pale skin. The composition is a close crop of the arm with a blue sleeve at the left edge and a plain light background.

Old Agnes Tallack came down the steps with her shawl over her head and a lantern that gave no light to speak of. She had mended nets for fifty years and never once been sick on a boat. "Your mother will want you home," she said. "But first you say the words. Say them like you mean them, not like a schoolroom." She put the lantern in his hands.
He said them. Expecto patronum, out into the grey, and he felt foolish, the words sounding small against the slap of water. Then something moved beyond the wall, a pale shape low over the swell, a dog with a silver mane and a light that came from nowhere. It went out into the fog and did not come back. But after a while a bell began to ring past the breakwater, slow and steady, and the Mary Pell's lamp swung round toward it.
The boat came in on the next flood with her nets torn and all five men aboard. Agnes was on the slipway, mending a net that did not need mending. On every foggy night after that Ruan stood beside her and said the words under his breath, and every time, somewhere past the wall, the silver dog answered with one short bark.
