Eyes in round glasses on a wrist
Realism · Forearm · Colour · Photo
The tattoo shows two open blue eyes with dark lashes and shading, each set inside a thick orange-brown round frame joined by a short bridge, giving the impression of spectacles. The eyes have soft grey shading and highlights, with the outlines of the frames appearing slightly softened. The photograph is taken straight on against a pale textured fabric background, with the design centred on the wrist.

The lost property box at Wexley Point hadn't been opened since the spring, and when Ruth finally lifted its lid on a wet Tuesday night, the first thing she found was a pair of round frames the colour of marmalade, folded inside a sock. There were no lenses in them. Just two empty rings joined by a little bridge of wire, and a tag in biro that said Flat 22, Pask.

She tried them on in the concierge hut because nobody was there to see. Through the empty rings the bank of CCTV screens looked sharper and further off, as if somebody had turned the whole car park into a museum. The lift indicator blinked from six to seven and back again. She caught her own reflection in the dark window and felt, absurdly, that she was being watched by something patient and kind.
Mr Pask came down at eleven, as he did most nights, in his slippers and his overcoat, asking whether anything had turned up. He squinted at the frames on her face and laughed until he had to hold the counter. He had lost the lenses on purpose, he said, years ago, when the glass kept fogging on the balcony. His daughter's bus came round the corner by the bins at twenty past eleven, and he had never once been able to make out its number without them.
Ruth took the frames off and handed them across the counter. He settled them on his nose, turned slowly towards the window, and his whole face opened. "There she is," he said, and out past the bins the headlights swung round the corner, right on time.
