Faith over script on the ribs
Lettering · Ribs · Black and grey · Photo
A close crop of a torso wearing a red lace bra and black trousers, with a navel piercing visible. A thin black cursive script reads Faith over, with the final word cut off at the edge of the frame. The lettering is a fine, even line set against plain skin, and the photo is shot in soft natural light with a shallow background.

She had chosen the words herself, copying them from the cardboard calendar pinned behind the galley hatch. Faith over. Her grandmother had written the rest in pencil on the back of a tide table, crossed it out, then written it again. Tamsin had never asked which word she meant to finish with.
The swell came in under the hull at half past five, the way it always did, and the boat lifted and dropped. She braced one knee on the cleat and kept the brush moving. It ran dry at the edge of the T. She dipped it, wiped it on her jeans, and found the last word would not fit without crowding the paint she had already laid down.
Her father shouted from the wheelhouse that they were going out with or without the signwriting. She drew the last loop small, the way a child writes when there is no room left, and climbed down with the tin under her arm. Behind her the stern rose on the swell and the words turned to face the open water, half of them still wet.
