Fine line wrist band with small pendant
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A thin solid line and a dotted line encircle the wrist, with a short dotted chain dropping to a small outlined pendant shape containing a tiny triangle. The linework is crisp and delicate, rendered in black ink with no shading or colour. The photograph is taken against a plain grey background, with the wrist and hand centred and the fingers partly visible.

The lost property room at Carrow Road Junction was sorted every Friday, and you were the one who knew which drawer held the things nobody came back for. Umbrellas hung on the left-hand hooks. Gloves went in a shoebox marked GLOVES in Mrs Pellow's careful capitals. The fine chain went into a small brown envelope with the other jewellery, and you tucked the 16:42 timetable behind its flap, the way you always did.

It had come in from Penzance, coiled in the crease of a seat cushion, a thread of metal with a little drop hanging from it: a diamond outline with a tiny triangle sitting inside. Mrs Pellow held it up to the lamp and said it looked like a hinge from a doll's house. You said nothing. The dotted run of the chain reminded you of the perforations on an old platform ticket, the kind you used to tear with your teeth as a boy.
Three months later a woman stood at the counter with a torn return stub pinched between two fingers. She described the chain before you had reached the drawer, the place where the dots thinned out near the clasp, and the triangle that pointed the wrong way up. She said her grandfather had bought it in a shop by the harbour and that it was the only thing of his she had left.
You counted the timetable out of the envelope, folded it once, and slid the chain across the counter. Through the window, the 16:42 pulled out of platform two, and the light caught the little pendant as it swung, as though it had been waiting for someone to notice it all along.
