Dear Tom, the crescent moon came up over the Skerry last night thinner than I have ever seen it, and I sat on the step with the flask and counted the dots the way you taught me, one by one, until the light swept round and wiped them out. Mrs Gall from the mainland boat says the mail will be late again because the swell has come up from the south, so this letter may go out with the next lobster boat rather than Thursday's.
