Geometric blade star design
Geometric · Black and grey · Flash
A bold, symmetrical design made of solid black shapes on a white background, resembling a star or snowflake. Four long pointed blades radiate diagonally from a central hexagon, with smaller hexagonal cut-outs around the outer edges and sharp spiked tips. The linework is solid and filled with black ink, with no shading or colour.

The pattern is still warm from the sand when Ruth sets it on the bench and tells you to stop watching the clock over Platform Two. The 4.12 has been late all week, but the foundry does not care about late trains. What it cares about is the star: a flat iron frame, four long blades reaching out from a hexagon hub, each spike cut so clean you could shave with it.

You have packed that star into sand forty times since March. Each time Ruth runs a thumb along the edges and finds a fault. The hexagon sits a hair off square. The blades are too fat near the root, so the iron would cool into a cold seam, and a seam on a station canopy is how a roof comes down on a Sunday crowd. She makes you cut it again, and you do, humming the timetable under your breath the way your father used to.
The canopy goes up on a Friday. Afterwards the sun comes through the openings and lays six-sided shadows across the wet tiles, and a woman with a pram stops beneath one to watch them slide over her boots. Ruth stands beside you with her arms folded and says nothing for a long time. Then she walks under the ticket hall, reaches up to the old iron star your father cast the year before he left, and runs her thumb along one blade.
Her thumb stops at the root, where the metal is thick and smooth. Yours is the same. She looks at you, then at the train rattling into Platform Two, and says the 4.12 is on time for once. You stand under the star together, and for the first time in a year the hexagon sits exactly square above your heads.
