Geometric mountain in a circle on a forearm
Geometric · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A thin black outline circle frames a geometric mountain or peaked shape built from interlocking triangles and straight lines. The linework is crisp and unshaded, with no colour, and the design sits centrally on the inner forearm against a shop background of drinks cartons and shelving.

She walked up in October with a boy named Tobias Ferrand carrying the chain. They counted the triangles aloud. Every side met its neighbour at an angle no stone should manage, and every line ran as straight as a ruled edge. At the summit there was no cairn, only a ring of pale pebbles laid with compass-true spacing, and in its centre the grass lay pressed flat, as if something had sat there a long while, watching the valley below.
Hester did not draw it. She folded her sheet, wrote unsurveyed in the margin, and walked back down with her boots full of mud and her opinions in order. Tobias kept the chain and went back alone the following spring with a lens of his own.
He came down three days later with a sketch that matched hers line for line, and pinned it to the schoolhouse wall beside the old map. Beneath the ring he wrote the only honest note a surveyor can make about a thing measured twice: it is exactly where it was.
