Gold temporary tattoos on forearm and upper arm
Botanical · Forearm · Colour · Photo
Two arms are shown in close crop, with metallic gold temporary tattoos on the forearm and upper arm. The designs include a geometric patterned band at the wrist, a cursive script line, a small leafy sprig and a larger botanical motif of palm-like fronds with a flower. The linework is bold and flat, with the gold sheen catching the light against warm skin and a sparkly fabric top.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Tuesday, and the sea has been coming in brown all week, which Ruth says is the river's fault and I say is the tide's. We sold four hundred sheets of gold transfers by noon. The bands go fastest, the little geometric ones that look like a tile cut into a strip, then the script, which we print in whatever words people bring us on scraps of paper. Today it was 'Maren', 'be brave', and a phone number somebody wanted hidden inside a sprig of leaves.

The palm sheet is my favourite and nobody buys it. Ruth says it's too grand for a holiday thing, that people want something they can wipe off on Monday without a fuss. I cut the fronds by hand from the old pattern book, the one with the water stain shaped like Ireland, and I still get the flower wrong. The petals always come out too round, like a child's drawing of the sun. Mr Okafor from the ice cream van bought one for his daughter and asked me to press it down with my thumb for a full minute, the way his mother used to do with stamps.
This afternoon a girl came back to the stall with sand in her hair and the palm frond half gone from her forearm. The sea had worn it to a thin gold line along the veins, and the flower was just a shadow. She held her arm out like evidence and asked if I could make another one. I told her the sheet only comes once, and she nodded as if she'd expected that.
She said she'd keep what was left. I watched her walk up the beach with her hand cupped over the mark, as though the sun might take it if she let go.
