Hummingbird tattoo on the upper shoulder

Realism · Shoulder · Colour · Photo

A small hummingbird in mid-flight sits on the upper shoulder area, with its wings raised, long beak extended and tail feathers angled downward. The bird is shaded with soft gradients and green-tinged plumage over dark outlines, giving it a lifelike, dimensional look. The photograph is taken from behind, with the subject's wavy brown hair and floral strapless top framing the tattoo against a softly blurred background.

Dear Ruth, the boat is still sitting on the slip where your father left her, and the gulls have claimed the wheelhouse roof as their own. I have been trying to fix the leak in the stern locker all week, but the tin of marine filler went hard in the shed, so I have had to make do with tar and an old tea towel. It holds, mostly.

You asked me in your last letter whether the hummingbird man came back to the harbour cafe after the storm. He did, on the Thursday, with a paper bag of sugar lumps for the ponies on the cliff path. Mrs Pellow swears he was the one who taught the Carrow lad to whistle through his fingers. I told her a man who carries sugar that far has no business teaching anybody anything, but she only laughed and poured him a second pot.

I went up the cliff path on Sunday to see the gorse. It was out all along the top in that yellow that makes your eyes ache, and there, hanging over the bracken as if it had forgotten where it was going, was a little green bird no bigger than a thumb. It hovered at the same spot for the length of a breath, then shot off towards the chapel roof like it had been fired from a gun. I stood there longer than I should have, which is why I am writing to you about it and not finishing the locker.

Come down at Easter if you can. The tide will be right for the rock pools, and I have kept your father's old net in the hall cupboard, though I dare say the moths have had most of it by now. Bring your good boots. The path is worse after rain, and the sugar is in the top drawer, so don't eat it all before you get here.
