"I must go" script with a small rose on a forearm
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A thin black script reads "I must go" along the inner forearm, with a small outlined rose at the upper end and a simple outlined bird or swallow shape at the lower left. The linework is fine and even, with solid black ink and no shading. The image is a close, black and white photograph against a dark background, with the tattoo centred across the frame.

Dear Ruth,

The 16:42 is late again, so I have the bench to myself and the heel of your loaf in my coat pocket. Mr Ashby has put the swallows' nest back up under the canopy, though the porter says it's bad luck to move them. I watched one dive for the gutter this morning and thought of the rose you pressed into my Bible the week before Dad's funeral.
I've tried four times to say this properly, so here it is plainly. I must go. It sounds like running, and I suppose it is, but not from you. Mrs Pryce's cottage is let to the Hendersons now, and there's nothing left in Keld except the lane and the church clock stuck at twenty past.
The ticket is for Leeds. From there I'll write when I've a room with a door that locks from the inside. Don't let Jack cut the rose back this year. It came up through the broken flag by the water butt, and it's stubborn in exactly the way I'd like to be.
The train is rounding the bend and I can hear the swallows arguing over it. I've pressed a spare petal into the envelope. Mind the corners when you open it.
Yours, Nell
P.S. Tell Jack the clock is still wrong, and that I was right about it.
