Illustrated leg tattoos in three panels
Thigh · Mixed · Photo
The image is a three-panel collage of one leg, each panel showing a different part of a whimsical illustrated tattoo. The left panel shows a heart-topped stem with leaves and a stylised figure with a cat-like face, the centre panel shows a figure in a bowler hat holding an umbrella beneath rain clouds, and the right panel shows a bird above a tree with hatched shading. Linework is bold and dark, with stippled and hatched shading, and the palette is mostly black and grey with small areas of coloured stripes.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Every morning Mr Ambrose Pell stepped out of number nine with his bowler squared on his head and his umbrella furled like a question, and every morning the little grey cloud came down the steps after him. It had followed him since the spring he lost his post at the bank. Nobody on Marrow Street thought it odd. The milkman waved at it. The cat from number eleven, a lean tabby called Nettle, sat on the wall and watched the drizzle drip off the brim with the patience of a cat who had nothing better to do.

One Tuesday Nettle jumped down, sat on the umbrella's ferrule, and refused to move. Ambrose tried to shoo her. She simply rode along, tail hooked over the spokes, as he walked to the post office, the chemist, and back. By the time they reached his gate the rain had thinned to a fine mist, and a sparrow, or something like one, had landed on the gatepost to look at them both.
Nettle leapt off, worked a seed out of her collar where she had carried it all week, and pressed it into the damp soil under the hydrangea. Ambrose said she was being absurd. She said nothing. The following morning a green stem had come up beside the step, bearing one heart-shaped leaf, and by the end of the month it had grown into a tree heavy with rain, the cloud settled in its branches like a hen on eggs.
Ambrose never carried the umbrella again. He still wears the bowler. Nettle still sits on the wall, and the bird, which he is fairly sure is the same sparrow, still sings in the dry weather.
