Infinity symbol with paw prints and heart on wrist
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows a single continuous infinity loop with a small outlined heart in the lower loop and two solid black paw prints beside the upper loop. The linework is thin and even, with the paw prints filled in solid black. The design sits on the inner wrist against a light skin tone and a blue textured background.

The dog came up the outer wall at dusk with mud to her hocks, and I knew from the way she circled the gatehouse that she was looking for someone who had already gone. Her name was Nell. She belonged to the shepherd at Cwm Isaf, who had taken his flock down to the valley fair three days before and never come back over the hill.

I had been sent up to Carrow Keep to repoint the south curtain wall, which meant my days were spent on a plank with a trowel and my evenings reading the weather off the sky. A path runs round the ruin in a figure of eight, through the chapel, past the well and back under the broken arch, and Nell kept running it. Each time she returned to the gatehouse her prints crossed the older ones in the soft ground, one loop laid over another, the pad marks pressed clean beside them.
On the third night I followed her. At the crossing point of the figure she stopped and dropped her nose to a heart cut into a corbel stone, worn so smooth by rain that it was nearly gone. Beneath it was a name I could not read. She lay down with her chin on her paws and would not move until I sat beside her and warmed my cold hands against her ribs.
The shepherd climbed the hill at first light, limping, his boots tied with twine. He said the fair had kept him and that he had come the long way round to avoid the road. Nell went to him without a sound. I went back to my plank, and when I looked down at the wet ground I saw her old tracks had already softened into the same shape as everything else, a single loop with nowhere to end.
