Infinity symbol with sun, moon and star
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A thin black infinity symbol sits on the inner forearm, with a small sun at the top of the left loop, a star on the right-hand crossing and a crescent moon in the lower loop. The linework is fine and even, with no visible shading. The tattoo is photographed against a dark, softly filtered background.

The lamp was guttering when Old Hesketh finally set down his pipe and told the children about the orchard gate at Lantern Hollow. Every evening, he said, the sun went down behind the apple trees and kept going, slipping along the long wire fence until it reached the moon's own lane, and there the two of them would pass each other like shy neighbours on a narrow path. A little star always waited at the crossing to see that neither one forgot the way back.

Nobody in the village had ever counted how many times the sun and moon had made that loop, but the gardener's daughter, Maud Ferriby, decided one wet spring that someone ought to. She sat on the wall with a tin of pins and a ball of thread, pricking a mark into the mud each time the light changed hands, and by midsummer the ground was so full of little holes that the rain couldn't find a dry place to sit.
One evening the sun came down the fence a few minutes late, looking flustered, and Maud asked him what kept him. He said he had stopped to help a fallen starling back into its nest, and the moon, who had waited the whole while without complaint, laughed so brightly that the star at the crossing nearly tumbled off its post. Maud wrote that down too, under the last mark, and went home to sleep.
In the morning the wall was bare and the thread was gone, though the pins lay in a neat ring by the gate. Hesketh always stops his story here, and the children always ask whether the sun and moon still meet. He tells them to go and look for themselves, the next time the light is leaving the orchard.
