Japanese chrysanthemum leg tattoos
Japanese · Thigh · Mixed · Photo
Colourful chrysanthemum blooms, pink and yellow flowers and green leaves sit on dark grey and black wave and cloud shading across both legs. The thighs and calves are covered, with the design flowing down from the upper back and continuing to the ankles. The photo is taken from behind against a plain green background, which keeps the full tattoo in clear view.

Mrs Orr had kept the chrysanthemum beds behind the net loft for thirty years, and she never cut a bloom for herself. On the night the Hesper came in a man short, she stood at the bottom of the slipway with a paper cone of yellow heads and waited for the lamps to be lit on the breakwater.

Her nephew Danny had gone out with the mackerel boats in March and had not been seen since the squall off Gull Rock. The crew said he had been at the wheel. They also said he had been singing, which was the sort of thing crews said when they had nothing else to offer.
Three nights later a parcel came up on the post van, wrapped in oilcloth and smelling of tar. Inside was a drawing on stiff card: a dark sea curling like the back of a wave, clouds banked over it, and a line of chrysanthemums climbing out of the water towards the shore. Beneath the flowers, in soft pencil, he had written, Tell Aunt I kept the lamps going. Mrs Orr pinned it above the loft door where the wind could reach it, and in the morning she laid the last of the gold heads along the slipway, one for every boat that had come home.
The Hesper went out again the following spring with a new man at the wheel, and the lamps on the breakwater were lit every evening after that, though nobody in Pellow Quay could say who had first asked for it.
