Lipstick tube tattoo on a finger
Realism · Hand · Black and grey · Photo
A finger is tattooed to look like a lipstick tube, with smooth grey shading, creased metal bands and a dark edge along the sides. The lettering MAC sits across the middle in thin black linework. The finger is held up against a plain background, with a red painted nail above and part of another tattoo visible on the arm behind.

Gather round, gather round, and mind the rope, for this is the tale of Ada Pring and the finger that wouldn't come off. Ada ran the coconut shy at Marlow Green fair for thirty summers, and every one of them she kept her lipstick in a pocket with a hole in it. Lost the lot, she did, one wet October, when the big dipper came down in the night and the whole ground turned to porridge.

Now, a lipstick is a small thing to lose, but Ada had a fancy for the expensive ones, the kind that came in a tube with a proper steel band and the letters pressed in neat as a sergeant's buttons. She went to every stall for a fortnight asking after it. Nobody had seen it. The strongman's boy offered her a bag of boiled sweets. The fortune teller said the tube had gone into the mud to seek its fortune, and that she should go find it herself.
So she did. She took the old pen knife, a tin of black ink and a sewing needle, and she sat on the back step of the caravan with the last light going, and she drew the tube onto the first finger of her left hand, crease by crease, band by band, the letters across the middle thin as a hair. It took till morning. When the sun came up the finger was a tube, and the tube was hers, and it never once rolled under anything.
Mind, the moral's yours to find. Ada wore it to the end, and when they buried her at Marlow Green they left the finger free, so she could point the way back to the coconut shy. Off you go now. Penny a go.
