Little Prince scene across the lower back
Fine line · Back · Mixed · Photo
The subject is a small illustrated figure of the Little Prince on the lower back, shown with a trail of birds and small stars drifting across the skin above a large orange circle. The linework is thin and mostly grey, with shading used for the birds and the figure, and the orange planet is the main area of colour. A line of French script runs along the lower back beneath the scene, and the composition shows the tattoo from behind with the wearer seated.

Dear Maud,
Keep reading
Eleven swallows came aboard off Finisterre, and by the time I had the potatoes peeled they had found the gap above the range and started building on the lamp bracket. Mr Okafor says it is bad luck to shift them. I told him I would rather have bad luck than a bird in the gravy, so the galley door stays propped and the swallows get their way, which is how most things go on this ship.
You will be pleased to hear I have finished the book. The French copy, with the fox and the rose and the little man who lives on a planet no bigger than a house. I read the bit about the fox three times in the forecastle by the bunk light. He says that when you tame something you become responsible for it for ever. I had to ask the second mate what apprivoiser meant, and he said to tame, and then, because he is a decent man, or to make a thing yours, Cook. I didn't tell him about our sister and the sparrow that flew into the wash-house and died while she was still holding it.
Last night the swallows left all at once, in the dark, the way they must have come. The hatch was open, the rafters were bare, and I had the odd feeling of having been given something and then not kept it. I am sorry, Maud, about the sparrow, about Mum's cough, and about the letters I keep meaning to write. I am writing one now.
I left a sugar lump on the windowsill in case they come back for it. It is a daft thing to do in the middle of the Bay. The next watch will likely eat it, or the gulls will, but I think I'll do it again tomorrow.
Love, David
