Five temporary tattoo designs on white squares: a black lotus, a magenta elephant above Námáste script, a black Om symbol, a black circle with a white Om, and magenta Námáste lettering.

Lotus, elephant and Om temporary tattoo designs

Botanical · Mixed · Flash

Five separate design squares are arranged on a white background. They show a black line lotus, a magenta elephant silhouette above Námáste script, a bold black Om symbol, an Om set within a solid black circle in white, and a standalone magenta Námáste script. The designs use solid fills and simple outlines with no shading.

The van doors come up at half past six on the Ramsgate car boot, and by eight the stock is already sweating in its plastic sleeves. You lay the sheets out on the trestle the way Dad taught you: the black lotus first, its petals drawn by a hand that wobbled, then the magenta elephant with its trunk curled up like a question, then the two Oms, one bare and one sitting in its black circle like a coin in a purse. The Námáste scripts go at the edge, where the wind can't reach them.

Margaret from the next pitch leans over her brass bells and says the elephant will sell out first. She is right by nine. A man in a fleece buys three sheets for his nephews and asks if they wash off. You tell him they last a week if nobody scrubs, and he laughs as though you've said something clever.

At eleven a girl comes back with the elephant half peeled from her wrist, its tail smeared into a grey smudge. She holds it out as if it has been unkind to her. You tear a fresh square from the sheet, wet a cloth from the flask, press the backing down and count to thirty slowly, the way you were taught, while she watches your mouth move. When you lift the paper the elephant is standing whole on her skin, and she runs off shouting for her gran.

That evening, packing up, you find the lotus sheet has one petal left over. You tuck it into the lining of your coat, where nobody at the car boot will think to look, and drive home with the heater on and the window cracked for the smell of the sea.
