Mandala with script on forearms
Lettering · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A collage of three panels: a pencil sketch of a layered mandala with flowing script across it, a healed or fresh forearm bearing the same design, and a close view of two forearms with a mandala split across both. The linework is fine and detailed with stippled shading, and the tattoos are in black ink and greys only. The photos are taken at close range against plain skin, with the mandala as the clear focal point.

Ruth had her sleeves pushed up, the way she always did when she meant to win. "You don't get to call it a sourdough when you've fed it biscuit crumbs," she said. "Whatever Gran would have said."
Marta laughed, because Gran had once sworn that a loaf took its character from the baker's temper, and nobody had ever decided whether that was a joke. They had been thick as thieves since they were eight, lifting windfalls from the same orchard wall and sharing the spoils on the church steps. Then a row over the shop lease had split them for eleven years, and the bakery had stood empty with its ovens cold.
At half four Ruth set a tray on the bench: a dark round loaf scored in a spiral, the old pattern from Gran's recipe book. Marta pressed her palm to the crust and felt the heat still in it. "You kept the book," she said. Ruth tore the loaf down the middle and slid the larger half across the bench. Grey light came through the window. The first bus hissed past, and the two of them stood shoulder to shoulder, flour on both their wrists, eating bread that was still warm from the same oven.
