Matching crown tattoos on wrists
Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two small crown tattoos sit on the inner wrists of two people, photographed with their hands held together. The crown on the left is solid black with a row of dots along its band, while the one on the right is a black outline with dots. The ink is black throughout against plain skin, with a dim indoor background.

Dear Kieran,

The lift on Carrow House has been out again since Tuesday, so I have been doing the seven flights like a woman half my age, which is to say slowly and swearing. Mrs Okafor on six says the council will fix it when the Queen comes to open something, which made me laugh until I had to sit on the landing.
You will remember the crowns on the wall by the bins. Those two daft boys from number nineteen drew them in biro the summer you lot were always down there. The solid one was Dean's. He coloured it in twice over so it wouldn't rub off. Your mate Sol did just the outline and then ran out of patience, and he said that made it the real one, because a king's crown is only a shape until somebody decides to fill it. I thought that was a load of rubbish at the time.
Dean's gone to Leeds now, working on the scaffolds, and Sol has been sitting on the wall outside the shop every evening. Last week he came up the stairs with me because the lift was out then too, and at the sixth floor he stopped and pointed at the wall. Somebody had gone over the outline in marker, carefully, the way you'd trace a bus route. He didn't say a word. Neither did I.
Anyway, come up for your birthday if the lift is working. If it isn't, bring a bag of chips and your knees will be grateful.
Love, Nan
