Matching infinity heart sister tattoos on feet

Lettering · Other · Mixed · Photo

Two bare feet show matching tattoos, each a black outlined infinity symbol with a heart in the loop and script lettering beside it. The left foot reads Lil Sister with a pink heart fill, and the right foot reads Big Sister with a green heart fill. The bold black linework is crisp against the skin, with flat colour fills, and the close framing keeps both designs fully in view.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Maud tied the last knot of the mooring line with her teeth clenched while Ada held the lantern and complained about the cold. The rope ran from the iron ring on the quay out to the buoy and back again in a figure of eight, which Gran swore would hold any boat in Gullhaven through the equinox gales. Ada had never trusted anything that looked like it had no end.

The buoy was the old one, its paint flaking in strips. Maud had daubed a green heart on the side facing the harbour mouth, and Ada had painted a pink one facing the cliffs, because that was how they divided things: the sea belonged to whoever could swim, the cliffs to whoever could climb, and the rope belonged to both of them. Nobody else in the village could tell the two halves apart, which suited them fine.

The storm came on the third night. Ada's skiff tore loose at the turn of the tide and her lantern went out over the water like a dropped coin. Maud ran the loop from the quay to the far rock, hand over hand, following the cord where it slid under the spray. She found Ada clinging to the gunwale with her hair full of kelp, and the knot held exactly where it was meant to.

Afterwards Gran asked why Maud had left a long spare end trailing from the ring, an arm's length of cord that served no purpose. Maud said it was so the rope could always be followed back to where it started. Ada, wrapped in a blanket, said that was a daft thing to leave hanging in the sea. Maud only grinned and tied it off again, though she left the very last loop unclosed on purpose.
