Matching infinity wrist tattoos

Fine line · Other · Mixed · Photo

Two inner wrists are shown side by side, each with a thin black infinity symbol enclosing script words, Love You Most on the left and Love You More on the right. A small red heart sits within the loop of each infinity symbol. The linework is fine and even, with the mostly black ink contrasting against the pale skin and a car dashboard in the background.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

By the time the Saltmarrow ferry lowered its ramp, you and your sister had been arguing for three days about who would be the last to leave the harbour house. Nell said she would. You said that was the whole point of the spare key, which she had never once used. The gulls on the bollards watched the two of you carry bags down the slipway without saying much, because the arguing had worn out its usefulness somewhere around Tuesday.

When you were nine and she was eleven, the two of you had written on the slipway in yellow chalk, taking turns. She wrote Love you most and you answered with Love you more, each line a little larger than the last, until the tide came up the stone and took the letters one at a time. Nell drew a figure of eight around the words before the water got to them, pressing so hard the chalk snapped. You remember her saying it was a loop that never ended, so nobody could ever be the winner.

At the foot of the ramp she turned and said, Most, in the flat voice she used for bus timetables. You said, More, and she laughed, and then neither of you could find the next line. The ferryman shouted that the crossing was not going to wait for a pair of old sentimentalists. Nell hitched her bag and stepped aboard first, which was her last point and, you suspected, her only one. Behind you the tide was already climbing the slipway, and the chalk, if there was any left, had gone under.
