Matching mountain and pine forest wrist tattoos
Geometric · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two identical bands of mountains, a row of pine trees and a horizontal shoreline run around the inner wrists, shown side by side. The linework is dark and outlined, with the trees filled in using dense short strokes and the peaks drawn with clean angular lines. The ink is entirely black and grey against pale skin, with a dark starry fabric and a white surface in the background.

Dear Morag,

The boat is in at Kinloch now and I have the kettle on in the bothy, so forgive the smudges. Dad's old oilskins are still hanging on the nail where you left them, and I haven't moved them. The men keep on at me to sell the nets and the outboard, but I told them the loch will want someone on it when the herring come back.
Thursday we ran the far side, under the ridge where the pines come right down to the water and the peaks sit above them like the backs of sleeping dogs. The light was flat and silver. Hamish swore the fish were gone, and for two hours he was right. Then the sounder lit up under the keel and we hauled until our palms split. Forty stone in the hold before dinner. I thought of you on the shingle with your arms folded, saying I'd never last a winter out here.
On the way back I looked up at the tree line and tried to count the trunks the way you used to count stitches. I lost my place twice. Each time I started again at the water's edge, where the first tree stands with its feet in the loch.
Come up at Easter. The gulls are back and I've mended the slip.
Your brother, Callum
