Matching sisters wrist tattoos with swing figures
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two people's inner wrists show matching tattoos, each with the word Sisters in script above the numbers 92 95 and a simple outline drawing of a girl on a swing. The linework is thin and black, with no shading or colour. The two designs sit side by side in the frame, with the wrists angled toward the camera.

You will remember the cherry tree behind Gran's house, the one with the low branch that took the weight of both of us the summer you were seven and I was ten. Dad hung it on a Tuesday. We agreed, the way children agree things, that whoever pushed the other highest got to choose the film that night. You always chose badly and I always let you.
I have been on the far side of the river for eleven months now. The house in Lenna has a hook in the porch beam that I tied the rope to on my first evening, and every morning I sit on the seat with my coffee and watch the lorries queue at the gate. Nothing else here belongs to me. The hook does.
Last week a boy from the flat below asked if he could have a go. I pushed him high enough that his trainers caught the gutter, and he shouted for more. I thought of you shouting for more, and of the pencil line on Gran's kitchen door frame where she measured us, and I pushed him again. Come in the spring. Bring the film you hate. Love, Ruth
