Matching sisters wrist tattoos

Fine line · Other · Black and grey · Photo

Two wrists are shown side by side, each with a matching fine line tattoo. Each design pairs the script word Sisters and the numerals 92 95 with a simple outline of a girl sitting on a swing. The linework is clean and uniform in black ink, and the pale skin and soft indoor light keep the focus on the two matching designs.

The rain had been falling on the Thursday market since before the bells, so the stallholders had pulled their awnings low and the cheese woman had stopped calling her prices. Under the old chestnut at the far end, where nobody sold anything, the swing still hung from its rope. Ada sat on it with her shoes off, her heels dragging two dark lines through the puddle.

Her sister Nell came across the cobbles with two paper cones of roasted chestnuts, which was foolish, because the paper was already going soft. "Father cut those numbers himself," Nell said, pointing at the bough where the bark had been opened with a penknife. "Ninety-two for your first summer on it, ninety-five for mine. He said the rope would outlast the both of us."

Ada did not answer. She pushed off with her toes and let the chain creak up towards the dripping leaves, and for a while neither of them spoke. Then Nell set the cones on the wet bench, took hold of the rope beside her sister, and walked the swing back until the wood touched her shoulder blades. "Go on, then," she said. "You always did want the high end."

The council man came the following Thursday with a clipboard and a tin of white paint, and found two grown women on the swing, both soaked to the skin and laughing at nothing. He marked a cross on the chestnut anyway and went off to the next stall. Ada kept her feet off the ground, and Nell held the rope steady, and the rain ran off the chain in a thin bright line until the cheese woman finally shut her shutters.
