Matching space silhouettes on thighs
Neo-trad · Thigh · Colour · Photo
Two matching profile silhouettes sit side by side on the thighs, each filled with a dark night sky scattered with stars and a planet, a moon and a UFO. The lower sections hold green and yellow mountain shapes, and the words THE TRUTH and IS OUT THERE curve across the upper outline of each design. Bold black outlines and saturated pink, green and yellow fills give a colour-led look, and the photo is taken straight on so both tattoos are shown together.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
The night the lights came over the Kessock ridge, Maeve Dunlop was on the roof of the petrol station with a flask of tea gone cold and a bet with her brother that she could see the satellite passes without binoculars. She saw something else. It hung above the Black Isle like a dropped coin, yellow-green, humming so low the tin roof buzzed under her boots. Then it was gone, and so was the lamp on the pumps, and so was the radio station out of Inverness.

Next morning the local paper ran a photograph of a pale wedge of cloud, and the sheriff of Dingwall, who was no sheriff at all but a retired postman with a moustache, told everyone it was weather. Maeve didn't argue. She went home and drew what she'd seen on the back of a seed catalogue: a moon hanging low, a planet with rings like a bad haircut, mountains rising in green steps, and a shape over them that looked more like a lantern than a ship.
Her sister Ailsa laughed at the drawing until she saw Maeve had written the words along the top, THE TRUTH, and under them, in smaller letters, IS OUT THERE. Ailsa took the pen and turned the paper over. Underneath she wrote her own profile, the same jaw, the same stubborn nose, and a single star for the eye. Neither of them said it aloud, but the next week they had both been inked in the same parlour on Church Street, and the artist refused to charge for the second arm.
