Matching stick figure girls on two feet
Other · Colour · Photo
Two simple stick-figure girls with smiling faces and rosy cheeks are tattooed on the tops of two bare feet, one on each foot. The left figure has blonde hair in a ponytail and wears a green striped dress, while the right figure has a red hair bun and wears a purple polka dot dress; both hold microphones. Black outlines are filled with flat colour, and the pair sits against a soft, blurred skin-toned background.

Dear Bea, the ferry from Hull was rough again, and I spent the crossing in the bar with a warm pint, listening to a man from Grimsby murder Sinatra to nobody. You'd have hated him and joined in anyway. I keep thinking about the Anchor last Tuesday, when the karaoke machine ate the second verse of our song and you just kept going, loud and slightly flat, grinning at the screen until the words caught up with you.

Mum still has the cardboard microphone you made in Year Four, the one with tinfoil wrapped round the tube, so I took it down to the harbour on Sunday and sang the chorus at the gulls. Two of them left. One stayed on the rail and looked at me like a critic.
The purser asked if I was travelling alone. I said no, my sister's waiting in Aberdeen, she's the one who can actually hold a note, and he laughed and said he'd heard enough about her already. I didn't correct him. Somehow you're still part of every crossing I make.
I'm enclosing a photo of the lounge dance floor, which is just a patterned carpet and a disco ball that doesn't turn, and I've written our chorus on the back in pencil so you can't claim I never gave you anything. Come down when the boat's in. We'll sing it the way we always did, you on the high bit, me flat and proud, until the bar staff ask us to stop.
