Two matching ankle tattoos: a black outline Mickey Mouse head on one ankle and a Minnie Mouse outline with a red polka-dot bow on the other.

Matching Mickey and Minnie ankle tattoos

Fine line · Ankle · Mixed · Photo

Two bare feet with rolled-up light denim cuffs rest against a dark background, each ankle bearing a small tattoo. The left ankle shows a Mickey Mouse head drawn in thin black outline, and the right shows a matching Minnie Mouse outline with a solid red bow with white polka dots. The linework is clean and uniform, and the red is the only colour in the image, with the tattoos sitting centred on each ankle.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Nobody at the Golden Wheel let Lottie Pask near the paint pots that summer, so she worked after dark, when her father was snoring in the caravan and the pier lamps turned the Channel to hammered tin. The panel was a slab of pine behind the ticket booth, already chipped where the swing boats had knocked it. She had a fine brush, a jar of black, and a tin of red she had nicked from the sign painter's van.

She drew the head first, one big circle and two smaller ones for ears, all in a single unbroken line, which her grandfather said was the only honest way to draw anything. Then she gave the second mouse a bow, two red lobes pinched together at a knot, and she dotted the red with the blunt end of a matchstick because the fine brush shook. Her gran came out with a torch, looked at the panel for a long while, and said the wheel had two fellows arguing over the ticket float for twenty years, and it would do them good to have a lady mouse for once.

The gale came in on the Thursday. The wheel groaned on its iron, the gondolas swung out over the water, and by morning the whole booth had been stripped of its boards except the one. The men came down the prom with their caps in their hands and found the mice still sitting there, black lines and that red bow, not a single spot run.

Gran said it was the knot that held. Lottie thought it was the matchstick dots, which had been too small for the wind to catch.
