Matching stick figure girls on both feet
Other · Black and grey · Photo
Two bare feet show matching tattoos of a stick figure girl with long hair and a striped dress, each holding a mug in one hand. The drawings use simple black outlines with no shading or colour. The tattoos sit on the top of each foot, with the figures mirrored and set against a wooden floor.

Writing to you is strange when we used to share a sink. I keep turning round to say something and finding only the wallpaper. Mum asked whether you'd be home for the regatta and I said you were busy in Leeds being a grown woman with a proper job, and she laughed at me, the way she does, because she knows we never could manage a sentence without the other finishing it.
Anyway. I went up to the chapel stairs yesterday with the paint tin and the old brush. The wall where we drew ourselves when we were nine is still there under three coats of Dad's magnolia, and I scraped a little window in it, just big enough to see our two stick girls holding their mugs out to each other across the plaster. Yours is still smiling. Mine has wonky hair because I never could get the fringe right.
I left the window open. If you come back at Christmas, look for the gap, bring the rabbit mug, and we will finish the tea we started in 1997. Love, Jess.
