Metallic pineapple temporary tattoos on abdomen and arm
Fine line · Other · Colour · Photo
A woman in a white pineapple-print bikini top holds a green coconut, with a large pineapple outline on her abdomen and a band of small pineapples around her upper arm. The abdomen design is drawn in thin gold and silver lines with a lattice pattern inside the fruit body. The metallic colours and bright, even daylight give the photo a summery, sunlit feel.

Hester had been up since four, turning the tan in the pinery pit with a fork while steam rose round her wrists. The master's guests were due at seven, and the one fruit ripe enough to show was still green at the crown. Mr Lowndes wanted it at the centre of the table, sliced thin on a silver salver, and he had said so twice in the potting shed as though repetition might hurry it along.

Her cousin Dan worked the gilding shop in Guildford and had taught her, one wet winter, how a leaf of gold would lie flat if you breathed on the surface first. She carried him a pineapple drawn on a slate by the kitchen boy, its crown splayed like a fan, and asked him to make a copy in foil for a dinner that would never notice the difference. He laughed at her, then cut the lattice with a needle, row over row, until the diamonds of the fruit caught the lamplight.
At six the gilt one stood on the sideboard, dulled a little where candle wax had spattered it. The real fruit, hardly bigger than a fist, sat under its glass bell in the pit, the last of the season. Nobody asked after it. Hester watched the footmen carry the gilt pineapple in on its stand and felt the room tilt toward it, as though it had been ripe all along.
Mr Lowndes lifted his knife, paused, and tapped the foil with one knuckle. Remarkable, he said, and asked whether the fruit had come fresh from the pit. Hester took the green one from under its bell and carried it down to the scullery, where cook would boil it into syrup for the servants' tea. It smelled of the whole summer.
