Minnie Mouse ears and red bow on hip

Thigh · Mixed · Photo

The tattoo shows a black outline of Minnie Mouse's round ears with a red bow in the centre, decorated with cream polka dots. The bow is filled with flat red ink, while the ears are drawn as solid black linework with no shading. The photo is taken close up, with the tattoo centred on smooth skin and a purple garment across the top of the frame.

Mind the step, child, the gravel's loose there since the frost. Now sit where the marrow bean grows over the wall, and I'll tell you about the mouse who kept the bower behind the vicarage, the one with ears as round as a pair of pennies and a bow the colour of a robin's chest.

Her name was Nell Pardoe, and she was the only mouse in Ashcombe who owned a ribbon. Every other mouse wore dock leaves and grumbled. Nell had tied a scrap of red silk from the rectory rag bag around her neck, and then, because the wind kept undoing it, she knotted the spare length on top of her head and dotted it with cream spots using milk from a bent thimble. The whole parish talked of nothing else for a week.

Then came the August the rooks stopped calling and the well dried to a cracked saucer. The old fox from the copse came sniffing along the hedge, and the mice gathered under the water butt and asked Nell what she meant to do. She looked at the bow reflected in the puddle, saw her own round ears beside it, and said that a mouse who wore red could be seen from a long way off, which was precisely the point.

She walked up the lane in broad daylight, bow bright as a cherry, and led the fox all the way round the village green while the others slipped down the drain to the brook. By dusk the fox was sulking under the churchyard yew, and Nell was nowhere to be found, only a red loop caught on the lych gate, and that is how we know she is still out there somewhere, bold and polka-dotted and watching the road.
