Music note tattoo on the inner wrist
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A small, solid black music note sits on the inner wrist, shown in close view with a black elastic band just above it. The linework is simple and the ink is a single dark tone with no shading. The background is a soft-focus outdoor path, and the woman's hand is raised into her hair, with a gold watch and bracelets on the same arm.

Dear Mr Pryce,

The piano has gone flat again since the frost got into the back parlour, and the lid will not stay shut on the damp. Your last visit was in October, and you said the pinblock would hold until Candlemas. It has not. Every key in the middle octave sits a little under where it should, like a hen that will not come off the nest.
I found the quaver in the bread bin on Tuesday. It was a small black note cut from card, the sort the schoolmaster used to hand out for the Christmas concert, and it had fallen behind the flour sacks along with a pencil and my husband's spare spectacles. Walter says it is the one Ada cut for the nativity the year before she went to Leeds. I do not remember it. I remember the sheep, though, and the way she would not sing unless the lamb was in the front row.
Write back and tell me whether a man can tune by ear in a house where the snow comes under the door. If you cannot come before the thaw, I will keep the note on the windowsill where the light can get at it, and I will play the hymn wrong every Sunday until you do.
Yours in the cold, Mrs Edith Harker
