No Lies and Just Love script wrist tattoos

Lettering · Other · Black and grey · Photo

Two black script words sit side by side across the inner wrists: No Lies on the left arm and Just Love on the right. The letters use smooth, flowing black linework with bold strokes and fine tails, and the shading is solid black with no grey wash. The photo is taken straight on, with both wrists filling the frame and the lettering centred on each.

Dear Morag,

The boat didn't come again on Tuesday, so Mr Gunn has pinned a notice in the shop window saying the crossing is off until the weather turns. That means it will be off until somebody forgets to tell him it has turned. I am writing this at your kitchen table because nobody has moved the chairs since you left, and I find I can't sit anywhere else.

You'll want to know about the letter from Glasgow. It came on Friday in Dad's handwriting, which surprised me, because he hasn't put pen to paper since the winter. Inside was one sheet asking after the cow and a line at the bottom saying he was sorry about the fence. I read it twice, then burned it in the range. I think that's the only lie I've told you this month, though I did read it aloud to the cow first, and she didn't seem to mind.

Remember the promise we made on the slipway with the stub of Dad's pencil? No lies, just love, we wrote, and we pressed so hard the words stayed on us for a week, until the bath got the better of them. I scrubbed mine faint on purpose. I didn't want anyone on the mainland reading it over my shoulder when I was hanging out washing.

When the boat finally comes, I'll be at the rail with my sleeves pushed up, ready to tell you everything I've kept back, the fence, the cow, the tide tables I've been forging so the ferry looks more reliable than it is. Come quickly, before the gulls take the last of the bread off the quay.

Your sister, Iona
