Olaf from Frozen on a forearm
Neo-trad · Forearm · Colour · Photo
A cartoon snowman with a carrot nose and open smiling mouth sits at the centre of a beaded oval frame, with pink and blue crystals rising behind him and blue snowflakes scattered around. Heart-shaped charms hang from strings of beads below, and the linework is bold and dark. Soft gradients of purple, teal and pink fill the background, and the image is a close, angled view of the forearm.

Sit closer, the lot of you, and mind the stove, because the wind on the Hollin Pass has teeth tonight. I'll tell you about the snowman who walked down off the high col in the spring the lake froze twice. Nobody believed the carter who saw him, so I'll not blame you for doubting.

He had a carrot for a nose, and it was the only orange thing for forty miles. He was round at the middle and thin at the top, and he smiled the way a man smiles when he has been told a joke he has heard before and still finds funny. The shepherds' children followed him past the cairns, throwing beads at him, pale glass beads the colour of frost on a window. He caught each one and hung it round his own neck until he looked like a bishop in a bead curtain.
Down at Corran Bridge, where the river goes green under the arch, there was a woman mending nets who had lost her husband to the ice. She did not laugh at the snowman. She asked him what he wanted most, and he said he had never once seen the summer, only heard it described, and would it be very rude to ask it to come up the pass and say hello.
So she gave him her last blue thread, and he tied a snowflake to it, then another, and he went up the mountain in a frame of crystal and light. The summer, they say, still hasn't come down the pass. But every spring a small cold draught carries a heart-shaped bead down to the bridge, and the net-mender pockets it, and says nothing, and that is the whole of the story.
