Peach and flowers chest tattoo with banner

Traditional · Chest · Colour · Photo

A large chest tattoo centres on a red and orange peach with green leaves and red radiating marks, framed by pink flowers with dark centres on either side. A ribbon banner across the lower chest reads WISDOM MODERATION JUSTICE, sitting above purple and pink flourishes. Bold black outlines and solid fills give the piece a classic flat look, and more flowers extend onto the upper arm at the right edge of the frame.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Mind the crates, they're still wet from the hose, and sit where I can see your face, because this is the part people get wrong. The city was asleep by then, all but the bakers and the gulls, and the old fruit merchant on Calder Lane had one peach left in his barrow. Only one. The last of the late crop, bruised on one shoulder and blushing on the other.

Two men came round the corner at the same moment, both starving, both certain the peach was theirs. One was a porter who had carried sacks since dawn. The other was a clerk from the magistrate's office with a cough and a debt. They argued the way men do when they have nothing left to lose, and the merchant listened, and then he took out his knife.

He did not cut it in half. Any fool can cut a peach in half. He turned it slowly under the streetlamp, found the seam where the stone would part cleanly, and said, "Moderation, gentlemen. Not the whole, not the nothing. Half each, and neither of you walks home with an empty hand." Then he sliced along the seam, the juice ran down his wrist, and he gave the porter the larger piece, because the porter had the longer walk.

The clerk laughed till he wept. The porter wiped his chin and asked why the merchant had not simply kept it for himself. The merchant only shrugged and said, "Wisdom is knowing which part of a peach is worth fighting over. Justice is making sure you're the one who divides it." Then he wheeled his barrow off into the dark, and the lamp went out behind him.
