Colour tattoo of a green peacock feather with a red and orange eye on the inner forearm near the wrist, in a realistic style.

Peacock feather on the forearm

Realism · Forearm · Colour · Photo

A single peacock feather is tattooed on the forearm, angled diagonally from near the wrist towards the elbow. The feather has fine dark linework for its barbs, green shading along its length and a red, orange and yellow eye at its base. The photograph shows the arm and hand over a bathroom sink, with the tattoo sharp and well lit against pale skin.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

The peacock had been living in the Hartwell Road allotments since the spring, and nobody could agree whose bird it was. Mrs Okonedo swore it had come over the wall from the vicarage, where the rector kept two hens and a grudge. Old Tennant said it had walked out of a travelling fair in March and simply declined to leave. Priya, who ran the seed swap from a shed with a broken window, only said that it turned up every morning at seven to eat the marigolds and that she had stopped trying to shoo it.

On the first Saturday in June the bird came into the shed itself and stood on the seed trays, looking at her with one bright eye as if she were the trespasser. She fed it a handful of sunflower hearts. It took them politely, then dropped one green feather at her feet, long and bent like a question mark, with a ring of copper and gold at the tip that caught the light from the cracked window.

She kept it pinned above the workbench for a year. When the council came with their clipboards to say the allotments would be sold for flats, she wrapped the feather in a seed packet and posted it to her sister in Leeds, who had always said Priya never finished anything. The letter that came back was short. It said only: Still watching you. Plant the marigolds anyway.
