Black ink infinity loop tattoo on the side of the ribs, with Peter Pan and Tinker Bell silhouettes and the words Never Grow Up in script lettering.

Peter Pan silhouettes in an infinity loop on ribs

Lettering · Ribs · Black and grey · Photo

The tattoo forms an infinity loop containing solid black silhouettes of a fairy with wings, a boy flying, and a figure in flight, with small star marks along the path. The words Never Grow Up are written in handwritten script lettering across the loop, and the silhouettes have clean, filled edges with no shading. The image is in black ink only, shown on bare skin in a close, straight-on view of the side of the torso.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

The lost property tray at Hollin Bridge crossing held the usual things by Thursday: one glove, a tin of travel mints, a rosary with a broken clasp. Nobody had claimed the black paper cut-out of a boy in mid-air. It had turned up under a coach seat, and Dora Pell, who had worked the night desk for nineteen years, propped it on the windowsill where the lamp caught its edges.

A man in a grey wool coat came asking at a quarter past two, when the coaches were idling and the border lights hummed. He described the cut-out before she could, down to the stars trailing it like crumbs. 'It's my mother's,' he said. 'She cut them from the black card her shop used for sign boards. Four of them, once. The fairy went first, then the boy, then the others, and she always said the loop was the only way home, because you never have to land.'

Dora asked him to declare anything that flew. He laughed, a short surprised sound, and said the paperwork had never covered it. She asked for a name and he gave one that sounded like a street in another country. She checked the tray twice and found nothing else, so she let him sign for it with a biro that skipped on the form.

At dawn, when the first lorry rolled through the barrier, Dora opened the door to let the cold in and the draught lifted the boy off the sill. He turned once in the air, dropping a little, then caught the current and rose over the car park in a long slow loop, trailing his stars through the frost.
