Pink flower wreath on upper back
Botanical · Back · Mixed · Photo
A circular wreath of pink blossoms and dark green leaves sits on the upper back of a person wearing a white top, with dark hair pulled back. The linework is fine and the petals are softly shaded in pink, with darker leaves and small stems for contrast. The wreath is centred in the frame against plain skin, with the open middle of the circle showing the skin beneath.

Dear Tom,

The porters have finally stopped arguing about the wreath. Mr Pryce wanted it taken down before the inspector came, but I told him the blossom off the Abbey Road wall had only just come out and it would be a crime to bin it. So it hangs on the hook above the ticket window, a ring of pink flowers and dark leaves bent round a space the size of a saucer. You can see the lamp through the middle when the sun drops behind the goods shed.
I made it on Thursday from the wire frame Dad used for the hanging baskets, binding the stems with green twine from the parcel store. Every bloom I wired on, I thought of you counting the trains from Crewe on the back of your hand. You always said the gap was the best part, that it was where the next carriage would come through. I never agreed, but I left it open anyway.
The last service runs on Friday. After that the line goes over to the new junction and the platform will be all weeds and rust-coloured posts. Mrs Gorse from the bakery says she will take the wreath home when the doors are padlocked, though I have told her it belongs to the station and she can have one petal, nothing more.
Write when you can. Tell me if the sea looks as flat as the postcard.
Love, Ada
