Pug and dog head tattoos on wrists

Realism · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo

Two hands are held together, with a small shaded pug head on the left wrist and a dog head with upright ears on the right wrist. The tattoos are rendered in soft grey tones with smooth shading and gradual tonal transitions. The plain white background keeps the focus on the wrists, hands and tattoos, with white nail polish visible on the fingers.

The other one is Bess, or Bessie, depending on who's shouting. Upright ears, a pale blaze down her face where someone has dragged a brush through the grey. She came off the Barra ferry in the back of a van nobody claimed, and she has never once got into a vehicle since. The two of them have worked out a system. Last Thursday the Dorothy Ann didn't come in. Forty minutes after the wind turned, the pug got up, walked to the end of the harbour wall and stayed there, not barking, just looking. Bess sat down beside him. I rang the coastguard feeling foolish, and when the boat finally limped round the point on one engine, I swear the pair of them stood up at the same moment.

I've told the harbourmaster they're not our responsibility. I've also started leaving a bowl out. Write when you can. Tell Mum the stove is fine and the dogs send their regards, which, if you haven't noticed, is the only sensible thing anyone has said on this island all week.
