R2-D2 and C-3PO heart tattoos on the chest
Traditional · Chest · Mixed · Photo
Two heart-shaped tattoos sit side by side in a close crop. The left heart shows R2-D2 in blue and white with striped dome details, a central panel and a red light, while the right heart shows C-3PO in gold with concentric rings and coloured wires against dark shading. Both use bold black outlines and flat, saturated fills.

Frost lay so hard on the Hollin farm that the well rope froze stiff as a poker, and the two tin helpers had to be carried in from the byre each morning. The blue one was called Pim, after the sound he made when he woke. The gold one was Sorrel, bought off a tinker years back, who had never quite forgiven the farm for its mud.

The winter the snow shut the lane, the old farmer took to his bed and the mare began to founder. Pim rolled through the drifts with his red eye glowing like a coal and fetched the vet's boy from two fields over. Sorrel, who could speak six languages and none of them useful to a horse, stood in the doorway counting the bales and telling everyone the sums were wrong.
When the thaw came, the farmer's daughter found the pair of them in the frozen trough, locked together where the ice had caught them. Sorrel's wires had tangled through Pim's grille, and neither would move until the other did. She spent a whole afternoon with a kettle of hot water and a pair of pliers, and nobody on the farm ever spoke of it again.
Each spring after that, they were carried up to the top field together, and Pim blinked his red light once at the sun while Sorrel said, to nobody in particular, that it was rather late in the year for it.
