Realism full sleeve with angel and pocket watch

Realism · Upper arm · Black and grey · Photo

A full arm sleeve shown from three angles, featuring a winged angel figure at the top, a large pocket watch with a detailed clock face in the middle, and a realistic eye above it. Lower on the forearm are scissors, keys and chain-like links, with candles and soft smoky shading in the background. The tattoo is rendered in black and grey with fine tonal gradients, and the warm orange tones come from the photographic setting rather than the ink.

Dear Marguerite, the keys are on the hook by the flour bin, where you said they would be, and I have not lost a single one since you left for Lisbon. Do not believe anyone who says the oven is temperamental. It is only impatient, like the rest of us at four in the morning. I came in at twenty to four with the pocket watch you left me ticking in my apron pocket, and the lane was still black except for our light and the gas lamp outside the chemist.

The first thing I did was light the three candle stubs you keep on the shelf above the proving cupboard for power cuts. Mrs Okafor from number nine came down in her dressing gown to ask if we were flooding. I told her no, only the dough is awake before the sun, and she laughed and took a bloomer still warm from the tray. I used the scissors to score the loaves the way you taught me, one fine slash on each so it opens like a wing in the heat.

I found your letter in the tin with the angel on the lid. You wrote that the watch stops if you forget to wind it. I laughed at that, but at half past five I wound it and listened, and it kept time, so I think you were telling me the shop is mine to keep going. The chain of keys still rattles when I climb the stairs, and I have started to like the sound.

Come home when you are ready. The ovens will be warm and the keys will be waiting. Yours in flour, Tomasz
