Realistic koala face tattoo
Realism · Black and grey · Photo
A realistic koala face fills the frame, with large round eyes, a dark nose and fine fur texture rendered in detail. Soft grey shading models the fur and the rounded ears, and a branch-like texture sits behind the head on the left. The image is in black and grey tones with a close crop on the subject.

The koala had already stripped half a eucalyptus limb off the Pell family's gum tree when Dad and I came round the back fence with the wheelbarrow. It sat in the fork like a sack of wet wool with two grey ears and a black nose, and it watched us with the calm of a bishop at a christening.

Mrs Pell wanted it gone before the Saturday fete. "Tell it to go somewhere respectable," she called from the verandah, holding her teacup like evidence. Dad said koalas don't take instruction and the only sensible thing was to wait. So we sat on an upturned crate with a billy of tea, and I counted the lorikeets that came and went while the animal breathed slow enough to fog the window of the ute.
By four o'clock the shadow of the gum had crept over the fence and the koala had not moved an inch. Dad said a koala in a dry year lives on almost nothing, and I thought of the coins in my tin and how little I needed too. Then it climbed down head first, unhurried, and walked straight past Mrs Pell's boots into the scrub behind the dunny, leaving a smear of eucalyptus oil on the bottom step.
Mrs Pell did not thank us. She swept the step twice and told the fete committee the gum tree was a menace. Dad winked at me and said nothing, which was the closest he ever came to a sermon.
