Remember the Magic script on an ankle

Lettering · Ankle · Black and grey · Photo

A black script tattoo reads Remember the Magic across the ankle, with a small Mickey Mouse ears icon after the final word. The lettering uses smooth, even linework with a medium weight and light shading. The photo is taken from a low angle showing the foot inside a patterned flat shoe on a dark floor, with the tattoo as the clear focus.

Dear Ivy,

The snow has been up to the sills since Tuesday, and the lane to the coach stop has vanished entirely. We are nine at the Hollin Inn tonight, which is three more than the cook planned for, and Mr Pardoe has taken it upon himself to stage a pantomime in the snug. He is playing the wicked stepmother with a dish towel on his head. You would have adored him.

Something happened this afternoon that I want to set down before I forget it. The youngest of the troupe, a girl called Tamsin who cannot be more than nine, found an old tin of greasepaint in the cellar. She sat on the bottom stair and painted two round ears on the back of her own hand, black as coal, then stood up and announced to the whole room that she intended to stay until the thaw and never grow a day older. Nobody laughed. Mr Pardoe put down his towel and bowed.

I told myself I would keep this letter sensible, but the truth is I have been thinking about your father's old cap and the summer we rode the little railway to the sea and back twice because you refused to get off. You said then that you would remember every bit of it, and I held you to that. Tamsin made me believe I ought to hold you to it still.

So when the lane is clear, go up to the attic and find the box with the blue ribbon. There is a ticket stub in there, a sixpence, and a photograph of you grinning with a paper crown. Keep them somewhere you can reach. Remember the magic, love, even when the weather says otherwise.

Your loving aunt, Maud
