Remember the Magic script with Mickey ears on ankle
Lettering · Ankle · Black and grey · Photo
A black script tattoo reads "Remember the Magic" across the ankle, with a small solid Mickey Mouse ears silhouette placed after the final letters. The lettering uses smooth, even linework with some shading in the letter strokes, and the ink is a dark grey-black on light skin. The close crop shows the ankle and foot in a patterned fabric shoe against a dark floor, with the lettering as the clear focal point.

The lost property at Dover comes in on the Sunday coaches, tipped out of their seats in a heap of cagoules, half-drunk water bottles and the odd sock. I have sorted it for nineteen years and I can tell you what people forget: phone chargers, reading glasses, once a whole tin of shortbread. Children turn up too, though those are usually found at the snack kiosk within the hour and nobody writes them down.

The shoe arrived in a carrier bag on a wet Tuesday in March. It was a single flat in spotted fabric, blue and rust and mustard, left under a seat on the Calais run. Tucked inside the heel was a folded bus ticket, and on the back, in careful biro capitals, someone had written REMEMBER THE MAGIC. Under that was a small drawing of two round ears, the sort a person draws without thinking about it.
I rang the number on the coach firm's sticker. A woman answered from a car park in Ashford, out of breath, and said the shoe belonged to her sister, who had gone home to Leeds that morning in a borrowed pair of wellies and had not mentioned losing anything. I said I would post it. She said there was no need, her sister would only buy another pair, and then she was quiet for a while before she asked me to post it anyway.
So I wrapped it in brown paper, added a note of my own, and I felt foolish writing the same words on the outside of the parcel. The reply came three weeks later: a photograph of the shoe on a Leeds windowsill in a square of thin sun, and beside it, propped against the glass, the ticket with its little ears, pressed flat and kept.
