Seven superhero emblems down a forearm
Geometric · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Seven solid black circular emblems sit in a single vertical column along the forearm, each with a simple graphic symbol such as a hammer, a star, an hourglass, a crosshair and a winged eagle. The linework is bold and the shapes are filled with flat black ink with lighter grey rings, giving a clean, graphic look. The forearm is shown against a red sleeve and a patterned floor, with the tattoo centred in the frame.

Before the bakehouse chimney had given up its first grey smoke, Mrs Oyelaran pulled the seven brass stamps from their drawer and laid them out on the flour-dusted board like cutlery for a feast nobody had ordered. Each was a little disc with a handle of ash wood. She had carved none of them. They had come down from her mother, who had them from a tinker at the crossroads, who said only that they were for stamping the morning's loaves so the town would know which ovens had been lit honestly.

The apprentice, Tomasz, was fourteen and believed nothing he could not knead. He asked why a hammer belonged on a loaf. She said the hammer was for the crust that would not break, and he laughed until she handed him the sharpest knife and told him to score the tins.
They worked in the grey until the first carts rattled past. The round stamp with the star went on the seeded cob for the widow on the hill. The hourglass went on the sour loaves for the night watch, because they would be eaten late and needed to last. The winged bird went on nothing at all, and that was the one she kept back in her apron pocket, pressing it against her palm whenever the door rattled.
When the sun finally cleared the church roof, the last loaf was marked with the crosshair for the boy who had walked three miles to fetch his mother's bread. He tucked it under his arm, asked for no change, and went off whistling. Tomasz looked at the stamp in his master's hand. "Which one are you?" he asked. She shrugged and blew the flour off the eagle. "Whichever one was needed this morning."
