Small Gemini symbol on the nape of the neck
Fine line · Neck · Black and grey · Photo
A person is photographed from behind, with blonde hair in a loose top bun and a white top. A small, thin-lined Gemini zodiac symbol sits on the nape of the neck, drawn in dark ink. The background is dark and the image is black and white, so the tattoo is the clear focal point.

Sit down, the lot of you, and stop eyeing the squash table like it owes you money. You want the story of the Pryor twins, and I'll tell it the way it was told to me in that hall one winter, with the radiators knocking like someone wanted out.

There were two of them, Mabel and Maud Pryor, born in the same minute on a Gemini night, which their mother said was the only thing they ever agreed on. Maud took the chemistry prize and Mabel took the blame for it. They swapped names for the register every Tuesday for a whole term and not one master noticed, because one of them always stood up straight and the other always watched the clock.
The turn came at the Michaelmas fair, when a stranger in a brown coat offered them a shilling for whichever of them would climb the bell tower alone. Mabel said yes before Maud had finished her sentence. Maud went up the tower regardless, counted ninety-one stone steps, and found her sister's glove on the sill with the bell rope tied round it in a neat double knot, and the stranger nowhere at all.
So when you see that little mark at the nape of someone's neck, the two pillars capped with their bars, you know it means two in the one body, each keeping the other's place in line. Nobody came down that tower with the same face they went up with. Mind the stairs on your way out, and don't let the caretaker lock you in with your own reflections.
