The dough for the tins is proving slowly in the cold room, and I've been turning the trays by hand because the machine keeps catching on its own belt.

I found your pencil stub behind the proving cupboard. I'd have kept it, but it was sharpened to nothing and I suspect you'd want it back for the order sheets. The sheets themselves have gone soft at the corners from the damp. I pinned the new Saturday list above the sink where the steam won't reach it, and I've put a ring round the seven-loaf order for the church hall, since you always forget the late collections.
The light came up over the bins about half five, a grey line first and then a tangerine smear that ran along the wall like paint someone had spilt and not bothered to wipe. I stood at the window with my tea going cold and thought of your mother's kitchen, the way the cups hung in a circle from the hooks, each one turning a little when the door opened. I'll bring the good cups in on Monday. Come in early if you can. The last batch needs watching, and I'd rather not do the second rise alone.
