Stitched quote along the side of the body
Lettering · Ribs · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo is a quotation set in black serif script across several lines, reading I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions. A vertical line of black stitches, like a surgical suture, runs through the lettering and down the middle of the text. The image is in black ink on skin, with a plain light background and a blue fabric edge at the right.

Her rule was simple: anything with a seam that had gone could be mended before it was shelved. So on Tuesday, when a man in a camel overcoat came back for the grey wool coat he had left on the 14:10 to Glasgow, she had already closed the split lining, and she had stitched the torn pocket with black thread, big uneven loops that wandered across the cloth.

"No," Winifred said. "I was in a hurry to get it right."
He looked at her then, properly, and laughed, a short sound that surprised them both. "My mother used to say that. About every hem she ever let down." He tucked the stitches under his thumb as if checking they would hold. The clock above the platform board clicked round to 14:10 again. Out on the line a train was pulling away with someone else's luggage aboard, and Winifred found she did not mind the mismatched thread at all.
