Sugar skull woman and profile man flash
Neo-trad · Colour · Flash
A red pencil sketch on cream paper shows a sugar skull woman in profile with rolled hair, a beaded necklace and a round pendant, above a second profile of a man with a swept-back quiff and a moustache. A script banner reading Vigilante sits across the lower right, with loose floral shapes and swirls behind the figures. The linework is fine and sketched, with light shading and no solid fills, and the composition is arranged as a single design.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
The third night the lamps went out on Saltmere, Halden Vane put on his good collar, oiled his hair until it stood up like a wave, and walked down to the pier. Nobody had asked him to. The town still painted the name Vigilante on the harbour wall, but the last Vigilante had been dead forty winters, and no one could agree who should carry the name next.

At the end of the pier sat Marisol Quill, who kept the drowned book in the old customs house. Her face was painted white and black like the sugar work the old people made for the feast of the dead, and she wore her mother's pearls looped twice, with a brass pendant the size of a plum stone. She did not look up. "You're late," she said. "The lamps went out an hour ago."
He asked who had cut the wicks. She opened the book and turned it so he could read the names: each lamplighter, each date, each wick snipped clean with a single stroke. "Whoever did this writes his own name in the margin," she said, and tapped the page. It read Vigilante, in a hand that looped like rope.
Halden held out his palm, and she laid the pendant in it. He pressed the catch and found a key no bigger than a tooth. "Then we know which door," he said. They walked up the cliff road together, and at the lighthouse the old brass lock turned for the first time in forty winters. The lamp came back on, slow and yellow, over water that did not look back at them.
